These engravings were published separately at the time, with the plates grouped together in portfolios called livraisons. The buyer was then free to have them bound together or framed.

Deliveries could be numerous, with around thirty engravings per delivery for this edition. The engravings shown here are from the 11th, 17th and 24th issues, which make up only a small part of Buffon's works.

Who was Buffon?

Georges Louis Leclerc, earl of BUFFON was born in Burgundy in 1707. He was a French naturalist, academician of science, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist, philosopher and writer. He is best known for his Histoire naturelle - Natural History

Published in Paris in 1826 by Baudouin Frères éditeurs and Delangle Libraire.

Engravings are yellowed, stained and foxed.
