L'Anatomie de L'Homme is the monumental work of Dr Bourgery, who spent the last 15 years of his life working on it: Traité complet de l'anatomie de l'homme, comprenant l'anatomie chirurgicale et la médecine opératoire.

Unanimously recognised for the finesse of its drawings by the anatomist Professor Jacob, a pupil of the famous painter of the Revolution, David.

In total, this work is illustrated with 725 folio-sized lithographed plates in sixteen volumes, eight volumes of text with 2108 pages, and eight volumes of plates with 3750 individual figures. Eighty issues were published between 1831 and 1854, the last volume being published posthumously.

Volume 4 contains 90 plates out of the original 91; plate 25 is missing.
