This species is found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific, from Africa to Hawaii and the Red Sea.
This fish is characterized by the two horn-like protrusions at the corners of its forehead.
Its trapezoidal body is stiffened by scales welded into hexagonal bony plates, forming an exoskeleton.
Once dry, the shell retains its shape.
