Antique pharmacy bottle with emery glass stopper.
Eau régale or royal water (aqua regia in Latin) is a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, which is extremely corrosive. The mixture was named "eau régale" (royal water) by the alchemists because it could dissolve noble metals such as gold or platinum.
Aqua Regia is highly corrosive, and has been the cause of numerous explosions due to mishandling.
