Balsamum Fioravanti - Balm of Fioravanti

This balsam was the universal remedy for many ailments!

It was developed by an Italian doctor from Bologna, Leonardo Fioravanti, in the 16th century.

The balm was obtained by maceration in alcohol of many ingredients such as gum arabic, oregano, clove, ginger, musk, ambergris, aloe, cinnamon, myrrh, nutmeg etc..

All these ingredients were crushed and then sprinkled with turpentine, different oils and brandy to macerate.

To be ready, the mixture had to rest for 9 days, then cooked over a low heat. This balm was used to fight against rheumatism, to clean wounds, to prevent gangrene, neuralgia... In short, a panacea!

It was found in the pharmaceutical Codex in France until 1949 in the form of alcoholate and no longer as a balm.

Glass blown with the mouth, there is the trace of the pontil of the cane to be blown under.
